Overview
Nungwi has been building wooden dhows by hand for centuries, and the fishing village at the eastern end of the beach is one of the last places in East Africa where this ancient craft is still practised. A village elder leads the tour through the boat yard, explaining construction techniques passed down through generations using only hand tools and locally sourced timber.
