Why Choose a Kizimkazi Holiday Package?
Kizimkazi sits at the southernmost tip of Zanzibar, far from the busy resorts of Nungwi and Kendwa. It is one of the few places in the world where you can reliably swim with wild spinner and bottlenose dolphins in their natural habitat — an experience that draws wildlife lovers from across the globe. A curated holiday package takes the guesswork out of planning, ensuring your dolphin tour, accommodation and transfers are all seamlessly arranged.
Kizimkazi is also home to East Africa's oldest mosque — the Shirazi Mosque of Kizimkazi Dimbani, dating to the 12th century. This extraordinary site, with its ancient Kufic inscriptions, adds a layer of cultural depth rarely found in a typical beach holiday. Our packages weave together dolphins, heritage, mangrove kayaking and south coast beaches into a coherent, unhurried experience.
What's Included in Kizimkazi Packages?
Every Kizimkazi package includes return airport transfers, accommodation in a vetted boutique lodge or eco-resort, and a guided wild dolphin swimming tour. The dolphin excursion departs early in the morning — the best time to encounter spinner dolphin pods resting in the calm bay — and typically lasts three to four hours. Your guide will brief you on responsible wildlife interaction before entering the water.
Multi-night packages add activities such as a guided visit to the ancient mosque, a mangrove kayaking expedition, south coast snorkeling and a sandbank day trip. Our South Zanzibar Discovery package extends to include Paje and Stone Town, giving you a comprehensive picture of the island's best-kept secrets. All guides are ZATI-registered and speak fluent English.
Best Time to Visit Kizimkazi
Kizimkazi's dolphin pods are present year-round, but the best conditions for swimming are during the calm season from June to October and December to February. During these months the Indian Ocean is at its clearest, with visibility often exceeding twenty metres, and the sea is calm enough for comfortable snorkeling alongside the dolphins. The south coast beach is also at its most beautiful in the dry season.
The long rains of April and May reduce dolphin tour frequency but bring lower prices — sometimes 25–35% cheaper. The ancient mosque and village walks are enjoyable in any season. If you plan to combine Kizimkazi with Paje for kite surfing, the south-east trade winds affect the best kite seasons, so speak to our team about timing your visit for both activities.
Top Experiences in Kizimkazi
The wild dolphin swimming tour is the headline attraction, and for good reason. Unlike captive dolphin encounters, Kizimkazi's tours operate on the dolphins' terms — the boat follows the pod at a respectful distance and guests slip into the water only when the dolphins are calm and socialising. Encounters can last from fifteen minutes to over an hour, and seeing a pod of fifty spinner dolphins leaping in the morning light is genuinely life-changing.
The Kizimkazi Dimbani mosque is equally compelling. Built in 1107 CE, it contains rare Kufic script carvings that predate the Ottoman period and show the extraordinary reach of Islamic trade routes into East Africa. The mangrove kayaking at Kizimkazi Mtendeni offers a quieter adventure — paddling through cathedral-like channels with kingfishers overhead and mudskippers darting between roots. South coast sandbanks appear at low tide and can be reached by local boat for a private picnic experience.
How to Book Your Kizimkazi Holiday Package
Booking is simple through our secure online enquiry form. Select your preferred package, travel dates and group size, and our Zanzibar-based team will confirm availability within 24 hours. A 20% deposit secures your booking, with the balance due 60 days before travel. We accept all major credit cards, PayPal and bank transfers. All packages can be customised — simply tell us your preferences and we will tailor the itinerary accordingly.
We recommend booking dolphin tour packages at least four to six weeks in advance during peak season (July, August, December and January), as capacity on morning boats is limited to preserve the quality of the encounter. Groups of six or more receive a 10% discount across all packages. Honeymoon and special-occasion upgrades are available on request, including private dhow sunset cruises and in-room floral decorations at participating boutique lodges.
